Equipment

  • - Large skillet or wok
  • - Cutting board
  • - Knife
  • - Wooden spoon or spatula

Ingredients

  • - 1 lb ground beef
  • - 1/2 head of green cabbage thinly sliced
  • - 1 medium carrot julienned or grated
  • - 3 cloves garlic minced
  • - 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated (or 1 tsp ground ginger)
  • - 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • - 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • - 1 tablespoon neutral oil like vegetable or avocado oil
  • - 1 teaspoon rice vinegar optional for brightness
  • - 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional for heat
  • - 2 green onions sliced (for garnish)
  • - Sesame seeds for garnish
  • - Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • **Brown the beef:**
  • In a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spoon and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • **Sauté aromatics:**
  • Push the beef to one side and add the sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • **Cook vegetables:**
  • Add the cabbage and carrots. Drizzle in the soy sauce, and stir everything together. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage softens but still has some crunch.
  • **Add finishing touches:**
  • Stir in rice vinegar and red pepper flakes if using. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  • **Serve:**
  • Remove from heat, sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds, and serve hot on its own or over rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice.
